Hi there! I’m Nicole, the editor-in-chief and one of the writers here at DogVills. I’ve been a dog owner for most of my adult life and a dog lover for much longer than that. I grew up with a wonderful German Shepherd named Jake, who I loved SO much that I named my son after him. When I’m not writing for DogVills or my own site, Pretty Opinionated, I love spending time with my teenager (when he actually lets me) and my Pharaoh Hound, Freya. I’m also an avid reader AND a total TV fanatic.

Another Puppy Bowl has come and gone, but if you missed it we have the 2016 Puppy Bowl recap! The Puppy Bowl XXII was held on Sunday and shown on Animal Planet. If you have never seen the Puppy Bowl before, you are missing a good time with some cute and lovable puppies. Puppies are divided into two teams, Team Fluff and Team Ruff. The two teams then square off in a football game, showcased in a model stadium, complete with commentary. All of the puppies are from shelters and are adoptable, which is such a great way to raise awareness.

The 2016 Puppy Bowl Recap

This year, there were 49 puppies competing in the Puppy Bowl, ranging from a 12 week old Great Dane named Bijoux, a 16-week old Terrier Poodle named Dilly, a 12 week old Boston Terrier named Miss Sassy, a 13-week old Pit Bull named Raphael and an 18-week old Wired Haired Terrier named Shylah.

The sideline cheerleaders did more of a squawk than a cheer, since after all, they were silkie chickens. They were incredibly cute. Team Ruff came out of the gates on a winning streak, with Darby, a 15-week old Jack Russell Terrier, scoring two touchdowns early on in the game.

The Puppy Bowl’s halftime show consisted of a cute little group of kittens. For 30 minutes, kittens played with lights, yarn balls, laser pens, flint sweepers and a scratching post, among a miniature San Francisco. The 21 kittens are also from shelters and are adoptable.

This year’s Puppy Bowl even included its own version of deflate-gate. During the game, the referee, Dan Schachner, noticed one of the game balls was deflated, and the puppies were reprimanded for tampering with game equipment.

Team Ruff took home the title on Sunday, with a final score of 70-44. The game’s MVP was Star, a Chow Chow/Labrador mix puppy that is 20 weeks old. Star was named MVP due to the three touchdowns she scored, one being a double touchdown. The double touchdown was scored when Star scored in both of the end zones.

The title of MVP was a close one this year. Besides Star, two of her teammates were also growling for the title. This included Leah, a 15-week old Rottweiler and Timber, a 14-week old Labrador Retriever.
