Hi there! I’m Nicole, the editor-in-chief and one of the writers here at DogVills. I’ve been a dog owner for most of my adult life and a dog lover for much longer than that. I grew up with a wonderful German Shepherd named Jake, who I loved SO much that I named my son after him. When I’m not writing for DogVills or my own site, Pretty Opinionated, I love spending time with my teenager (when he actually lets me) and my Pharaoh Hound, Freya. I’m also an avid reader AND a total TV fanatic.

The Heroic Tale of Maxx the German Shepherd Dog

Two neighbors, Chip and Andrew Dover, along with friend Joe Jordan were outside that night looking at the stars with a telescope, when suddenly they heard a large explosion coming from the Feaser family home. Chip Dover told Today, “We were outside with my telescope, looking at Jupiter with my next door neighbor. We were getting ready to come in when we heard a big explosion, and the house just blew up.” They immediately called 911 and broke the windows of the home to gain access to the inside.

Other neighbors also ran to assist the family. The home was filled with thick, heavy, black smoke. Margo Feaser was the first to be located and taken out of the burning home. Margo attempted to go back in the house to get her husband and two kids out but was held back by neighbors. Firefighters arrived within minutes and rescued Brent Feaser from the home. However, the two children were still inside the home, and that is when Maxx leaped into action. Maxx ran back inside the home, knowing the two children were still trapped inside, leading firefighters to the two Feaser children.

The four family members were all hospitalized, in varying conditions from serious to critical but all are expected to recover. Maxx was treated by a local veterinarian for smoke inhalation but is expected to make a complete recovery.

Margo Feaser has been a member of the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office for 12 years, where she currently works as a vehicle theft investigation. A GoFundMe page was set up for the Feaser family to help them with medical, veterinary and housing expenses. As of Thursday evening, $37,880 has been raised to assist the family.
