Siberian Huskies are high energy and high maintenance. While they have great personalities, they also require lots of training to get over their stubborn streak, and they need lots of physical stimulation to keep them happy. Siberian Huskies – Beautiful, Bouncy, and Oh, So Stubborn
Much like the Siberian Huskies of today, their originated as a working dog. These dogs were bred to carry heavy loads in the tundra and as a result, they have a strong desire to work and a high energy level. They love physical activity, and without it they can become destructive, annoying little buggers – said with love, of course.
In addition to their high energy level and love of physical activity, this breed is extremely intelligent but not extremely eager to please. These dogs have their ideas about the way things should be in their pack, and owners must be in the alpha role if they want to get anywhere with their Husky. With a Husky, the key is to show them what’s in it for them and to brook no nonsense; a firm kind hand is needed when training this breed.
Another thing to be aware of with Siberian Huskies is their coat. That beautiful, thick coat requires a lot of attention. You’ll need to brush daily if you want to keep your house relatively – emphasis on relatively – free of hair. This breed originated in the arctic north, and as such these guys have a thick double coat. And they shed. A lot. This is especially true when they blow their coat in the spring and fall. Let’s put it this way. You may think you’ve seen shedding, but you haven’t seen anything until you’ve seen what happens with Siberian Huskies blow their coats. You’ll be pulling off the hair.

Siberian Huskies are also what I like to call “mouthy”.”They are very verbal in their demands, and they can be physical with them as well. Huskies talk and talk and talk. They’ll tell you when they’re happy, when they’re sad, when they’re annoyed, and when that squirrel in the yard is looking particularly nefarious. They’ll also use their mouths to physically express themselves. Expect to get nipped. Siberian Huskies nip when they play, they nip when they’re annoyed. They just nip. They’re not being bad. It’s just their breed.

Once you figure out how to navigate the personality quirks of Siberian Huskies, you’ll have a great dog on your hands. If you have a fairly active family or just a nice, big fenced yard, the Husky could make a great pet for your family. Just remember that training is of utmost importance with Siberian Huskies. Unless of course you want your dog to run the show. =)
