The Deluca Family from Florida is hailing their 2-year old German Shepherd, Haus, a hero today. It was last week when Haus was playing in the backyard with 7-year old Molly Deluca when suddenly Molly’s grandmother noticed Haus jump back and forth a few times. It wasn’t until the family saw the dog crying and bleeding, that they realized Haus was in a battle with a snake. This is the second story in just about a week where a German Shepherd saved the day in Florida.

The Deluca Family quickly realized that the German Shepherd was standing between Molly and the venomous Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake. Haus, who was rescued from Heidi’s Legacy Dog Rescue in Lithia, Florida, just two months prior, is recovering at the Blue Pearl Emergency Veterinary and Specialty Hospital in Tampa Bay, Florida. He is expected to make a full recovery, after being by the venomous snake three times.
The dog is being provided with pain medication as well as anti-venom medication. But the veterinary costs are expensive. In fact, it costs the family between $1,000 and $1,500 a day to keep Haus in the ICU at the hospital. Also, Haus is being given 4-5 vials of anti-venom each day, with each vial costing $618.
A GoFundMe page was immediately set up to help with Haus’ medical costs but the family shut the page down in just two days, after raising $52, 549. The family felt they had more than enough money from all of the generous donations to cover all of the medical expenses. However, they do have a Facebook page that they set up to keep the public up-to-date on Haus’ recovery.
The family does a great job with updates, with the latest one being this morning by Donya, Molly’s mother, “The BEST news so far. Haus is doing great; Walked up to me the most “Haus-like” we’ve seen since before the incident. He ate some chicken and drank water. I took him outside for a brief walk and potty break.”
